The top 10 best skincare MLMs of 2017

Skincare is still a largely untapped market in the MLM space.

Although you’ve got hundreds, if not thousands, of MLMs that sell skincare products (often right beside their miracle diets and nutritional pills), very few do it well.

But skincare is a massive, global market, and people are willing to shell out HUGE amounts of money for products that work (see #1 for proof).

So have I been promoting any of them?

Make sense? Either way, here are the top 10 best skincare MLMs of 2017:

#10. Pure Haven Essentials

Pure Haven Essentials screwed up big time when they first started. Formerly, Ava Anderson, they got majorly busted by the USDA for making false claims about their products. According to them, their products were naturally based and free of harmful chemicals. The USDA actually found more than one toxic chemical in their formulas…yikes.

But hey, sometimes you have to mess up big to learn big. To make sure their products fall in line with regulations now, they’re one of the few skincare MLMs that’s actually legit certified organic by the USDA. Their current interim CEO has already grown the company from $15 million to $20 million in annual revenue, so things are looking promising.

#9. Seacret

You know the crazy hype over dead sea skincare products that was taking over a few years back? These guys basically started it. The founders, two brothers who immigrated to the U.S. from the dead sea itself (well, from Israel), have managed to grow Seacret into a billion dollar company with a massive network of over 12k distributors. They’ve gone totally global and are landing features in Business Wire and Business2Community because of it.

#8. Nu Skin

Trust and MLM aren’t exactly two words I’d use in the same sentence, but Forbes Magazine called Nu Skin one of the “100 most trusted U.S. companies”, so I’ll take their word for it. They do regularly rake in over $2+ billion in annual revenue, and they’ve been around for over three decades.

25% commission isn’t anything special, but they still manage to pay out a little over 40% of their profits to their distributors. Because they’re one of the originals, they also still train their distributors pretty well when it comes to sales and marketing.

#7. Nerium

These youngsters have been around for 6 years, but it only took them 1 year to be ranked in the top 100 MLMs by Direct Selling News (#86, then #54 the following year). Their sales quickly shot up to $100 million after launch, and a year later they doubled to $200 million. The growth these guys experienced in their first few years is enough to make your head spin.

While it’s slowed down a bit, they’re still going strong. Their anti-aging products are a favorite, and they seem to actually work. Plus, distributors can unlock some pretty sweet bonuses, including a $50,000 Live Better Bonus (no, that isn’t a typo…5-figures).

#6. Oriflame

Oriflame is the industry vet of skincare MLMs. While they can’t top the giants (hats off to Mary Kay and Avon), they’re well on their way.

Oriflame has been around since the 60s, and they’re publicly traded on the NASDAQ. This Swedish MLM sees a whopping $1.5 billion in sales each year, and they’ve got millions of consultants in over 60 countries worldwide. It’s also free to join Oriflame, which is a huge anomaly. I can only think of a very small handful of MLMs that don’t make you pay anything to become a distributor, and none of them are as big as Oriflame.

#5. Mary Kay

There’s really no doubt out there that Mary Kay is one of the Greats when it comes to cosmetics and direct sales. Here are just a few numbers to consider: 5, 3.5 billion, 3.5 million, 50.

That’s a #5 ranking on the Global 100, topped only by 4 other MLM giants, $3.5 billion in annual sales, 3.5 million distributors worldwide, and a 50% commission rate. Mic drop.

Skincare is actually one of their largest product categories, as well. Their age-fighting moisturizer is a best seller, and it goes for $24. This isn’t dirt cheap, but it’s way less than the sticker price at a lot of other skincare MLMs. Their hand cream is only $10 and has rave reviews.

#4. Jeunesse

Even though they’ve been around less than a decade (launched in 2009), this has been one of the most hyped up skincare MLMs in recent years. And for good reason.

By 2016 they’d already climbed they’re way up to the top 20 on the DSN Global 100. That’s insane – they’re ranked higher than a mountain of MLMs that have been in the game for decades.

Dr. Nathan Newman, the guy behind their wondrous products, is world renowned for his work in science and engineering. He’s created some pretty astounding skincare products for Jeunesse using stem cell technology and antioxidants.

It’s also super cheap and low-risk to join Jeunesse – just a $30 start up investment.

#3. Arbonne

Arbonne may be the poor man’s Mary Kay or Avon, but they’re catching up. For some perspective…Avon and Mary Kay are ranked 2 and 5 in the world, respectively, and both are doing several billion a year in sales. Arbonne is still back at #38 with just half a billion in sales. But they’ve been moving up steadily year by year.

Their focus on younger generations, on cruelty free, all-natural products, and on branding that speaks to the future could really give them a leg up over the course of the next few years. Especially when it comes to skincare. Their skincare products are known for being free of nasty chemicals and fillers that can clog up your pores, and their botanical ingredients are said to be very soothing and healing.

#2. Younique

Younique is one of the most innovative and creative MLMs out there. They’ve also got more buzz than an NBA player’s haircut. You’ve probably seen them flood your Facebook feed.

Just check this list:

  • Named one of Utah’s “emerging elite” in 2015
  • Exceeded $53 million in sales in ONE MONTH
  • Named “fastest growing company in the nation” by Melanie Huscroft
  • 515,000 distributors in over a dozen countries
  • No minimum order requirements and no home parties

That last part is sweet, sweet music to an MLMer’s ears. That’s right – no more stockpiling inventory you can’t sell in your closet, wasting your money on autoship, or holding those god awful, bored to tears home parties. Younique focuses on selling through social media, and they’re a master at it.

#1. Rodan + Fields

The level of domination here is just undeniable. Whenever I ask someone what the most memorable skincare product they can think of in recent history is, the answer is always this: Proactiv.

Well, these guys created Proactiv, along with a whole host of other effective and crazy popular skincare products. That’s because, unlike most skincare MLMs, Rodan + Fields was actually founded by two legit dermatologists: Dr. Kathy Fields and Dr. Katie Rodan.

Now they’re inching toward doing a billie a year in sales with a year-over-year growth rate of 90%, and they’re considered the #2 skincare brand in the entire United States. Their products are pretty pricey, but people don’t care. They’ll pay up. And you’ll make that much more in commission.

If you’re set on joining an MLM company, going the skincare route could be profitable if you have a solid warm market to sell products to.

That being said, only a tiny percentage make enough money to quit their day jobs and retire.

You’d be lucky to even hit 5-figures in an entire year with any network marketing opportunity.

The fact is that it doesn’t really matter what the MLM is, they’re not life long income streams.

If it’s financial freedom you seek and you like automated ways to build passive income, there are better ways than peddling skincare products.

When Melaleuca got started some 30 years ago, they were just a humble little start-up company in a small town in Idaho.

Those days are long gone. They quickly became a multi-billion dollar company with operations in almost 20 countries worldwide. These guys bring in a million shoppers per month.

And in 2015, their annual sales broke the $1 billion mark. That’s HUGE. They did $1.75 billion in 2016, making them one of the top MLMs in the world.

Their tagline is “The Wellness Company”, and they want all of their endeavors to cover four areas of wellness – a more holistic approach, we’ll say. The four aspects are your physical health, your financial well-being, your overall quality of life, and the greater well-being of the environment.

Frank L. Vandersloot started Melaleuca way back in 1985. He’s been a successful salesman his whole life, but as he started to age, he decided that he wanted to start letting someone else do the grunt work for him. So he built up a team of part-time salespeople and started an MLM. Well played, Mr. Vandersloot, well played.

Frank Vandersloot injects Melaleuca with a refreshing dose of humility and frugality when MLM is known for arrogance, over-the-top events, and fancy car bonuses. He’s known for preaching to his employees the value of living within their means, not going into debt, and not buying cars and houses they can’t afford.

He even discourages his distributors from pushing new recruits into a mountain of debt by purchasing tons of inventory and training programs. I can get behind that.

How much does Melaleuca cost?
There’s a one-time membership fee of $29. You also have to buy about $80 in product each month to keep an active membership and qualify for commission.

Products

Melaleuca health and home products have always been centered around offering environmentally friendly options to everyone. Of course, “environmentally friendly” usually comes with a higher price tag.

The list of Melaleuca products is longer than the line up outside of a Chick-Fil-A drive through at lunch time. Seriously, the amount of products they sell is ridiculous. Then again, they have been around for over 30 years.

Their catalog can be broken up into the following categories: Nutrition, Medicine Cabinet, Beauty, Household, Bath & Body, and Essential Oils. Your one stop shop for all the MLM favorites.

Some of their most popular products include Peak Performance Total Health, a nutritional supplement that supports your workouts and is actually clinically tested (congrats), their Renew intensive skin therapy lotion, and their eco-sense laundry products. The only way to see their prices is to log in to a member account.

They offer a membership money-back guarantee that allows you to terminate your membership up to three months after purchasing it and get your money back, and you don’t even have to give them a good reason. So signing up for their shopping membership is worth a try, even if you end up not really digging it.

Compensation Plan

The Melaleuca compensation plan, also known as their “Business Builders Plan”, isn’t half bad. However, it is way WAY more confusing than it needs to be. Smells like MLM.

Don’t worry, I’ll try to parse out the details and break it down easily for you.

The most important stream of income is the purchases your customers and recruits are making. You get a residual income on all of their purchases, so if they shop on the platform regularly, that can add up. You get 7% of their monthly spend.

If you are the Enroller, you can earn 20% on your new customers first 150 product points purchased, and if you’re that person’s Enroller and immediate Marketing Exec, you can earn 27%.

Your 7% in residual commission isn’t huge, but it stays flat straight through your downline. It doesn’t decrease, which is a pretty good deal. You get 7% off of your 1st generation, 2nd generation, 3rd generation, etc. This goes 7 generations deep.

You can also earn bonuses for enrolling Quality Customers. Quality customers are people who enroll, become Preferred Customers, and make the necessary minimum purchases within their first month.

Weekly Melaleuca bonuses are given out to anyone who has kept their Preferred Customers enrolled through the past 5 months. If you’ve managed to retain 75% or more of your Preferred Customers, you can qualify.

Finally, Melaleuca gives out some pretty good Leadership Development Bonuses for those who are building up a solid team of distributors who sell a lot and move up in rank. Each time one of the distributors in your downline gets a rank bonus or sales bonus, you get a bonus that’s equal to 50% of their bonus.

Like I said, the compensation plan is way too convoluted, lol. Usually, when MLMs do that, it makes me wonder what they’re hiding.

Looks like Melaleuca is hiding their income statistics. If you take a look at them, they aren’t exactly encouraging.

The average annual income of their Directors (and many new reps don’t even make it to Director level), is $2,047. These are distributors who have worked at building their business for quite some time and already have 8 customers or more. Many people won’t even make it that far.

Recap

Melaleuca has a pretty impressive backstory, especially if you remember back to the early 2000s when they really started to take off. But they haven’t slowed down – hitting $1 billion a couple years ago was their greatest milestone yet.

The company might be doing great, but most of their distributors are not. Sorry folks, but the numbers don’t lie.

Of course, if you’re into their products, it could be a fun gig to do on the side. Just don’t expect it to pay the bills.

They’ve spent years testing, researching, and developing cosmetics, so you know their products are top notch. These aren’t just trending favorites, they’re time-tested, proven favorites. Seriously, their product development team is the size of some small countries.

They’ve also got more than just makeup and skincare, although that’s where their products are focused. But you’ll also find body products, fragrances, and men’s products.

Some of their best-sellers include Lash Love Mascara, their TimeWise 3-in-1 cleanser, their Mary Kay eyeliner, and their Mineral Powder Foundation. They’ve also released a new line of skincare products called Clear Proof that have been doing really well.

On top of that, their products are very reasonably priced. Compared to most major cosmetics brands, Mary Kay is considered affordable, even cheap. Most of their top products are around $12-$18.

Compensation Plan

When you buy into becoming a Pink Lady, you automatically get the title of Independent Beauty Consultant. If you sell well, you can move up to Independent Sales Director and National Sales Director. This is where the money’s at.

We all know the peons at the bottom of the pyramid don’t make good money…or any money at all. This is especially true of organizations as big and reputable as Mary Kay. They bring in a lot of money, sure, but the longer they stick around, the harder it gets to move to the top.

Anyway, the start up kit provides you with some materials to start – a business announcement eCard, a custom color look, 40% off a business kit (which you’re going to need if you’re serious), and 50% off Mary Kay product purchased online.

Yep, you read that right. 50% off. That means you purchase product at half price, re-sell it for full price. For folks that can count, that’s a 50% commission rate on personal sales. One of the best in the business.

Once you move up in rank, you can start earning 4% on the sales of your downline. If you keep shooting toward the sky, you could reach as high as 13% commission on sales that other people are making for you. Not bad at all.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. But how do I get the free pink car?

This is how their most successful distributors rope in new team members time and time again. They show up to Becky’s engagement party in their shiny new Mary Kay Caddy, and eventually one of Becky’s friends asks how she got it. Ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom, new recruit.

Anyway, I’m going to give you the good new first, then the bad news.

The good news is that all top sales people have the option of getting the pink Cadillac as a bonus if they can reach about $100,000 per year in sales.

The bad news? You have to hit 6 figures in sales. This is not an easy feat, folks. It’s going to require a lot of spamming your family and losing all your friends.

The extra bad news? Car bonus incentive programs are basically NEVER a good deal in MLM. If you do somehow manage to sell $100,000 and qualify for the Cadillac, you don’t get the car outright – you get a 2 year lease with Mary Kay paying your monthly lease payments for you. However, if you fall below that requirement, Mary Kay stops paying off your lease and you’re left to shoulder the $800+ monthly payments on your own. It’s a good way to rack up some debt.

If you HAVE to join an MLM and you’re really into makeup, Mary Kay is an obvious choice. They’ve churned out loads of successful sales women.

That being said, for every successful sales woman they made, they made 100 women go into debt buying product they weren’t able to sell.

Yes, Mary Kay might be killing it…for direct sales. But if it’s money you’re chasing, there’s other stuff out there.

If it’s financial freedom you seek and you like automated ways to build passive income, there are better ways.

Could Bode Pro be the next big nutrition MLM?

Bode Pro is a health and wellness MLM founded by BK Boreyo, the guy with over $1 billion in direct sales career earnings with companies New Vision and Vemma.

Vemma was doing hugeee sales at their peak – I’m talking hundreds of millions in revenue. The only thing that could stop them back then was, well, the thing that always stops MLMs: the FTC.

Overview

Vemma came under fire from the FTC for having a sketchy compensation plan and focusing too hard on recruitment (cough, pyramid scheme, cough). In 2015, the FTC shut them down, and in 2016, Vemma settled with the FTC for a whopping $238 million and an agreement to totally restructure the company. [1] Ouch.

That being said, maybe BK Boreyo learned a worthwhile lesson from all this. He certainly doesn’t let the government bullies knock him out easily. Vemma is back in action, and Bode Pro is looking promising.

Bode Pro started out in the USA and Canada and already expanded to Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, with plans to cover all of Europe in no time.

Boreyo has also switched things up since his run-in with the FTC. He’s calling Bode Pro “a fresh approach to direct-to-consumer influencer marketing”. They’ve got their own start-up technology and mobile app now that are designed to help their affiliates become micro influencers and leverage social media marketing – turning their Instagram and Facebook into a social marketplace, and making money in the process.

It’s a pretty smart approach. Influencer marketing is HUGE! According to Forbes, 73% of marketers have an allocated budget for influencer marketing, and 71% of consumers are more likely to make a purchase based on a social media reference.

I’m just not so sure how well combining influencer marketing with MLM will work. It could be revolutionary…but it could also tank. More on that later.

How much does Bode Pro cost?

You have to buy a Bode Pro product first, and then you have to get at least one person to do the same. After that, it’s a one-time fee of $29.95 plus a monthly fee of $9.95.

Products

Bode Pro’s products are “nutritional nootropics.”

If you’re wondering what the heck a nootropic is, first of all, come out from under your rock and join the rest of us. Nootropics have BLOWN UP over the past few years. Even Silicon Valley VCs are backing this stuff.

So what are they?

Basically any drugs, supplements, nutritional substances, etc that are designed to improve cognitive function. None of that diet pill crap – these pills make you smarter.

Pretty cool, if it works. Bode Pro has two flagship products right now: Bode Happy and Bode Strong.

Bode Happy

Bode Happy supplements are nootropics, so basically, they’re supposed to improve your focus, productivity, and energy. It’s marketed as a pill that gives you a mental advantage when it comes to multi-tasking and balancing the different aspects of your busy life.

1 packet of the stuff contains 24 servings and costs $53.95. At over 2 bucks a pill, you’d better hope it works. It’s a little steep, but if you’re replacing your morning coffee with this stuff, it’s probably comparable in price.

Bode Strong

Bode Strong is more like your traditional nutritional supplement. It’s meant to help you bulk up, cut fat, have more effective workouts, and boost your physical energy.

They’re set to launch a handful of other similar products with different benefits, but for now they’re just focused on the two. It’s a pretty limited range of products, but it’s kind of refreshing to see a new MLM focused on getting a few products right instead of trying to do 100 things at once and not really mastering any of them.

Compensation Plan

Their compensation plan gets you both retail profits and unilevel commission that pays down to 7 levels deep. You need to maintain at least 50PV in sales each month to qualify for the compensation plan.

Interestingly, 25 out of that 50PV must be in plain old retail sales to an actual customer rather than your downline. You can already tell they’ve strayed away from the pyramid scheme plans.

Your retail commission starts at 15%, which is pretty low. However, as you move up in rank, you can earn 20%-25%.

In order to qualify for affiliate commission, you need to be a Platinum ranked influencer or higher. It’s not too hard to do, but at least half your GV needs to come from retail sales, so you do have to actually sell product to real customers.

Residual commission pays out 7 levels deep on the following structure:

  • Platinum Influencers get 5% on their levels 1-3.
  • Star Platinum get 5% on levels 1-4.
  • 1 Star Platinum get 5% on levels 1-5.
  • 2 Star Platinum get 5% on levels 1-6.
  • 3 Star Platinum get 5% on levels 1-7.

If you rank Star Platinum or higher, you get a 5% matching bonus on the sales of your personal recruits. Move up, and that matching bonus can extend up to 4 levels deep.

They also offer pretty generous leadership and rank bonuses.

Recap

It’s still a little early to tell what’s going to happen with Bode Pro, but things are looking promising. I expect you’ll hear a lot more from Boreyo for years to come in the MLM world.

If you’re really into their products, getting in on the ground level could be a fun gig. Their compensation plan looks legit, and I don’t foresee them having major issues with Bode Pro like they did with Vemma.

However, I also don’t see too many people getting rich off this gig.

They’re trying to leverage the popularity of influencer marketing and social media, which sounds good, in theory. The problem with trying to mix influencer marketing and MLM is this: you have to already have a massive following to make any money in influencer marketing.

People trust influencers who have been around for a while and have made a name and a brand for themselves. People DON’T trust MLM, and that’s just a fact. Coming in as a nobody and spamming your friends and family on social media isn’t going to get you rich, it’s just going to get you blocked.

If it’s financial freedom you seek and you like automated ways to build passive income, there are better ways.

NHT Global, also known as National Health Trends Corp, has been around since 2001. They’re a subsidiary of parent company Natural Health Trends Corp, which has been around for about 25 years now.

So, these guys are no newbies. Sitting at #54 on the DSN’s list of the top 100 MLMs in the entire world, they’re in it to win it.

Headquartered in California, this company expanded globally pretty quick. Within less than a year in operation they’d already moved into Canada, Australia, Puerto Rico, and New Zealand. Now they’re  in over 40 countries worldwide.

Chris Sharng, the President of NHT Global, is pretty impressive. He’s held numerous high level positions with some of the biggest corporations in the world, including Vice President of International Finance at Mattel. Scott Davison, their CFO and Senior VP, has been with NHT for 13 years and counting. Before that, he worked for communications giants such as IP Communications and Celion Networks. He holds a Masters degree in Professional Accounting from the prestigious University of Texas at Austin.

NHT Global is a member of the Direct Selling Association, and they have an A+ rating with the BBB. They are publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange as NHTC.

Unlike a lot of older MLMs that peak and then plateau for a while, NHT Global’s growth hasn’t stalled. In fact, it’s skyrocketed.

Just in the past two years, this company has managed to grow exponentially. Their stock shares are now worth around $28.8. Back in January of 2014, they were worth just $3.2. The company peaked in late 2015, with their stock reaching over $50 a share.

They’re pulling in great numbers lately, hitting $287.7 million in annual revenue in 2016. [1] It’s pretty obvious that NHT Global isn’t going anywhere.

How much does NHT Global cost?

You need to buy a Business Builder Pack to enroll, which will cost you $100. There’s also an annual fee of $50/year.

You’ll need to make your first order in order to activate your account. To qualify for the entire compensation plan, you’ll then have to sponsor two direct recruits who enroll and activate their accounts.

Products

NHT Global does general eCommerce, which means they sell a little bit of everything: beauty products, nutritional products, skin creams, you name it.

However, their products can generally be broken up into three main categories: NHT Global Beauty, NHT Global Herbal, NHT Global Wellness, and NHT Global Lifestyle.

NHT Global Beauty

Their beauty products don’t consist of cosmetics so much as skincare products. They’ve got items like a Botanical Hand Protector, an Age Defying Hair Mask, and their Skinindulgence line of anti-aging creams.

NHT Global Herbal

Their herbal supplements include LivaPro is for liver support and detoxification, Cordyceps  Mycelia is for kidney function and sleep improvement, and Purus supports heart health.

NHT Global Wellness

This category is where most of NHT Global’s products fall. They’ve got probiotics, stem cell supplements, omega-3 fatty acids, noni juice, fiber supplements, energy boosters, and more.

NHT Global Lifestyle

NHT Global only has two lifestyle products, but they’re pretty unique. LaVie is a red wine alternative made from red grapes from the Bordeaux Region as well as aloe very and raspberries. It’s meant to provide you with the health benefits of drinking a glass of wine a day without having to consume alcohol. ALURA LUX is one of their top-selling products. It’s a paraben-free lubricant with menthol and L-arginine.

Compensation Plan

NHT Global calls their compensation plan “the most retail-oriented compensation plan in history”.

I don’t know about that, but it is definitely more retail focused and less recruitment heavy than a lot of plans out there.

You get retail profits with NHT Global, which means that you purchase their products on wholesale at discounted prices, and then you sell them individually at marked up retail prices. You get to pocket the difference. The exact markup isn’t specified.

Based on your sales numbers, you might also qualify for extra bonuses.

The two-team infinity compensation system is the binary portion of their compensation plan, which lets you earn a commission on the sales of your stronger leg ranging from 5% to 20% depending on your rank.

Generational Bonuses at NHT Global are decent. They let you earn residuals off the sales of your direct recruits, up to 3 levels down, and they range from 3% to 18%. They also offer matching bonuses up to 3 levels deep, depending on your rank.

Look – there’s nothing wrong with this company.

But there’s nothing new and exciting about NHT Global. There’s no oomph. There’s no hype. There’s no…potential to win big $$$.

Just look at their earnings disclosure statement. Only 41% of their distributors were even eligible for commission in 2016. That means that over half of them didn’t earn a single penny, let alone pay back their initial investment. Only 1% made over 25,000 for the entire year, which is barely over minimum wage in some places.

Joining NHT Global might get you a little extra cash here and there if you’re lucky, but you’re never going to get wealthy with them. You’re highly unlikely to even earn enough to cover your phone bill.

If it’s financial freedom you seek and you like automated ways to build passive income, there are better ways.

Overview

If you’ve heard of MLM, you’ve probably heard of Amway. And if you’ve heard of Amway, you’ve probably heard of World Wide Dream Builders…

Here’s why.

Amway is the #1, long-time reigning champ when it comes to direct sales. Call them the Michael Phelps of MLM.

If you take a look at the top MLMs in the world based on revenue, the numbers speak for themselves. Amway is, and has been for years, in the first position. They bring in $8.8 billion in annual revenue, while #2, Avon, isn’t even close – they sit at $5.7 billion.

So, it makes sense that when you have a corporation that huge, it’s going to have some popular offshoots and copycats. Well, Amway has hundreds. In fact, they have so many, there’s a name for them: Amway Motivational Organizations (AMOs).

These are MLMs that successful Amway distributors started in which they use the methods from their own success to train and motivate new Amway distributors to follow in their (6-figure) footsteps…all for the low, low price of $49.95. These guys built their own pyramid off the side of another pyramid, basically.

Worldwide Dream Builders (WWDB) is one of those AMOs. In fact, it’s the largest, most successful AMO.

WWDB was started by Amway legend Ron Puryear. This guy started with Amway wayyy back in the early 70s, and he managed to hit it big. It only took him 4 years to move up to Diamond, and before he knew it, he was pulling in 6 figures.

Naturally, people began to notice him, and he’d taken to teaching others his methods for success. So he decided to make money off this by starting WWDB in 1997. Using his WWDB program, he’s grown his own prodigies: his organization at Amway now has over 500 Diamonds.

How much does Worldwide Dream Builders cost?

It costs $49.95 per month to join WWDB as a basic member.

However, there are some additional fees you’ll need to pay in addition to your membership, and they’re a little hidden. I’ll spell them out for you.

Communikate – $36.95/month. This is the communication system they use. Without it, you won’t be able to partake in any of the benefits of being a member.

A basic subscription to training CDs and audio – $25/month. Without these, you might as well not join at all, as they’re the bread and butter of the company.

So, it’s closer to $112 per month, bare minimum.

On top of this, there are lots of extra training kits, events, and educational programs you can purchase that can add up to over $250 a piece. Plus, you have to sell around $300 per month to qualify for commission. This is in addition to whatever you’re paying Amway to sell for them.

Products

WWDB sells the dream of striking it rich with Amway. They do this in various formats – eBooks, audio files, CDs, and presentations.

They also sell training events in various cities around the country that cost a pretty penny. They really sell distributors on these events, convincing them that attending in person is the only way they can make real money. Those costs add up fast.

Their basic $25/month order gets you 6 audio files per month with the most recent information, trainings, and advice for selling with Amway. There are an endless amount of materials and training packets that one can purchase though.

It’s genius – if anyone feels like they’re wasting their money and not getting anything out of WWDB, they can convince that person that they simply aren’t spending enough. “Well, of course you’re not seeing success yet, you haven’t purchased XYZ!”

Compensation Plan

Known for having one of the most unique compensation plans in the industry, WWDB really makes their distributors work long, hard hours and go hard with the Facebook spamming in order to see any results.

That’s because they work on a compensation system that requires you to build up 6, (yes, SIX), legs, all at once. Just to qualify for a bonus, you’ve got to hit 300 PV yourself and then get all 6 of your legs to hit 100 PV each.

That’s not all. In addition to getting all six to sell for you, you’ve also got to get half of them to attend those expensive in person events, and 5 out of 6 have to be purchasing the monthly standing order of audio files.

On top of that, your legs will break away when they hit 7,500 PV, and you’ll have to start all over from scratch.

It sounds crazy, and it is. But you do see some good rewards if you can make it happen continually. You get 30% commission off your active legs, and even after they break away, you still see 4% residuals for life.

Don’t expect dream building to come easy. You’ve got to put in some serious work to do well with WWDB (along with some serious cash).

This is all on top of the time and money you’re investing into Amway, which is likely already way too much.

Can you get rich off Amway and WWDB?

Highly doubtful. Nothing against the company, but 99% of MLM-ers aren’t making any money.

Overview

Despite the current LipSense-mania, SeneGence has actually been around for a long time. Since 1998, to be exact. But they were kind of a nobody until recently.

Just check this chart. Crazy.

So what pushed the hype train on SeneGence into overdrive?

Probably a mix between the increasing popularity of social media (in particular, Instagram and YouTube) and, well, Kylie Jenner…stay with me here.

Love her or hate her, Kylie Jenner started a worldwide trend with her infamously bloated (and purportedly fake) “Jenner lips”. A YouTube/Vine trend called the “Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge”, in which women used lipstick to grossly exaggerate the size of their lips, took the internet by storm in 2014.

Thus, the cultural obsession with lipstick was reborn, and it used social media as its platform right from the start. You’ll notice that this is around the time that SeneGence started taking off.

With their ultra-long lasting LipSense products and the potential to turn their direct sales model into social media influencer marketing, SeneGence rode this wave like a pro. By 2015, they were up to $15 million in annual revenue and breaking sales records left and right. In 2017, they made it to #47 on the Direct Selling Momentum Ranks, which measures the momentum of an MLM based on their Alexa ranking, the buzz they’re getting on Facebook, engagement on social media, and their own polls.

Joni Rogers-Kante, the founder of SeneGence, is the reason SeneGence has been so successful. She was trained by the best in the business – Rogers-Kante is a former pink Caddy driving Mary Kay lady. After learning the ropes and hitting top sales numbers, she went off on her own and started SeneGence.

Headquartered in California, the company has 80 full-time employees and now operates in over a dozen countries worldwide.

How much does Senegence cost?

To become a distributor, you need to pay a $55 sign-up fee. This will get you all the necessary marketing and training materials, but you won’t get any product.

To start up with some product (which you have to do if you want to sell anything), you can choose from two kits:

  • Lips Kit: $95, comes with select lip product
  • Glamour Demo Kit: $295, comes with a sampling of all their best-selling products

In order to remain qualified, you need to sell at least 300 PV each month.

Products

It’s not just their lipsticks that are long-lasting. All SeneGence products were formulated to last longer than any other cosmetics on the market. Long-lasting makeup is just now becoming a trend, but they’ve been doing it since the 90s.

SeneGence makeup is all semi-permanent, water-resistant, all-day wear makeup. And when they say all day, they really mean all day. SeneGence is still known for having some of the best long lasting cosmetic products on the market.

Their products come in the following categories:

  • Skincare
  • Anti-Aging
  • Face
  • Eyes
  • Lips
  • Body

They also recently started selling perfume as well as a line of special, dermatologist formulated products called SeneDerm.

Their products aren’t outrageously priced, but they’re pretty expensive. LipSense, for example, costs $25 for one color. On top of that, you’re technically supposed to purchase the $20 LipSense Gloss in order to “seal” the color as well as the $10 Ooops! Remover in order to properly remove the lipstick. If you really want the Kylie Jenner look, you’ll also need the $50 LipVolumizer. That’s a total of $105 just to look like you’ve got bee stung lips.

It’s also a lot to invest in up-front. As a distributor, you’re going to want some product on hand so that potential clients can try it out. No one wants to spend $45+ on a lipstick they can’t even try first – what if it looks bad? You’ll want to have all the different colors on hand for them to try, too.

This is turning into a pretty hefty initial investment.

Compensation Plan

You do get a pretty generous discount on product, which is a huge plus for a lot of SeneGence distributors. They often join just for the product discount.

The product discount starts at 20%, but it can range all the way up to 50% if you sell enough. You have to hit at least 750 PV per month to get the 50% discount, but that means you’re taking in 50% retail profit on your personal sales. That’s one of the highest commission rates out there (on par with Mary Kay).

You’ll also get residual commission on your downline. This is paid out on a unilevel structure, and it only pays out 5 levels deep. Most MLMs pay residuals 7 levels deep.

However, their rates aren’t bad. You get 10% on the purchases of your level 1 recruits, 20% on your level 2, and 30% on your level 3. And you only have to hit 100 PV monthly to unlock that. Eventually, you can unlock an extra 5% on your level 4 and level 5 recruits.

What this encourages you to do is to focus a little more on quality over quantity when building your team. Other MLMs pay down 7 levels deep with lower commission rates, which makes it pretty easy to just sit back and let your downline recruit, recruit, recruit without training them much in sales.

With SeneGence, there’s a big focus on your first three levels, so it becomes important to train your recruits really well and help them succeed.

They also pay residuals 5 levels deep on the sales volume of your downline, which totals out to 25%.

Recap

If you’re really into SeneGence products, you should probably join up as a distributor. They offer great discounts, and it could turn out to be a really fun hobby.

But if you’re expecting to make a living off this opportunity, good luck. You’ve got to invest a lot of money to start up, and you’ve got to sell like crazy and recruit a HUGE team. This just isn’t realistic for 99% of people.

Hitting it big with a company like SeneGence really only works if you’re already a pretty well known beauty blogger or YouTuber with thousands of loyal followers. You’ve already established a huge customer base, and they trust your recommendations.

However, don’t expect to build an empire from scratch. If you don’t already have a following and a very big, loyal client base, you’re probably going to be throwing your money at SeneGence while your words fall on deaf ears.

If it’s financial freedom you seek and you like automated ways to build passive income, there are better ways.
